Na's Kung Fu Academy offers training that can enable students to become confident, well-rounded martial artists. The curriculum changes every three months. Depending on the interests of the instructor and the students, classes are taught in the following styles.
Northern Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu
Northern Shaolin Kung Fu is the most popular style of Kung Fu in the world. It is known for its kicking techniques and long-range fighting skills. In addition to learning self-defense techniques, training in this discipline offers an excellent full body workout.
Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu
Praying Mantis is known for its speed and deceptiveness. It is regarded as one of the most effective self-defense systems ever created. Praying Mantis comes from the Shaolin Temple and complements Northern Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu. Long Fist is excellent for long-range fighting, while Praying Mantis is advantageous for close-range (joint locking, throws, and powerful limb breaking skills).
Baji Quan Kung Fu
Na's Kung Fu Academy is one of the few schools in the United States that teaches Bajiquan. Baji Quan Kung Fu originated in the Hebei Province in Northern China, and has become especially popular in Taiwan. This short-range style features powerful, explosive movements rooted in a characteristic stomping, with the entire body mobilized to deliver its famous elbow and shoulder strikes.
Tai Chi Quan and Meditation
Tai Chi is considered the best of the best of the Chinese martial arts. The name Tai Chi Quan translates to “Grand Ultimate Fist.” Tai Chi, while excellent for any age, is suitable for adults and seniors. It features slow, controlled movements that help with balance, coordination, flexibility, and overall general health. The self-defense principles of Tai Chi are found in every other martial art.
Weaponry (18 Weapons)
There are 18 main categories of weapons that play a major role in Kung Fu. Gaining specific abilities to wield the various weapons greatly enhances particular skills and attributes used in bare-hand fighting. Recent classes have included training with Steel Fan, Broadsword, Nunchucks, Short Staff, Long Staff, and Tai Chi Sword.
